RESEARCH NOTE: Captain John Gaither (c.1642-1702), son of the immigrant John Gater. Built the family into Anne Arundel gentry; in 1663/4 patented 'Abington,' an 875-acre estate between the Severn and South Rivers that stayed in Gaither hands over 200 years and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
